Extract from interview with Andy Wilson by Zach Abramowitz

Legacy on-prem tools were designed for IT and systems-people because that’s who bought the tools: IT. So, naturally these tools are WAY over the top complicated for basic users. The makers of these legacy products call the systems-designed software “robust”, which is another name for “complicated IT software”.

Cloud-based products are typically designed for the end-user first, and IT second. This is a stark contrast that is easily recognizable by both IT and the user. And in the case of e-discovery, this is a great thing for end-users because 90% of the work is done by the end-users. So, having a product that’s powerfully simple for end-users is a huge win for the people actually doing the bulk of the work.

This realization is what is causing a mass exodus from legacy tools.
